President Obama's belated budget, dead on arrival as usual, gave six trillion reasons why a grand bargain remains impossible.
The White House proposed spending an extra $5 trillion and raising an extra $1 trillion in revenue over 10 years compared to last month's House Republican plan. Obama's budget blueprint was largely a repeat of his year-end offer that failed to derail the automatic spending cuts that began in March. Those sequester cuts to defense and domestic programs appear here to stay barring an economic deterioration that jostles the status quo.
