Half Believe Background Checks Will Lead to Gun Confiscation

Many of those polled still support it

Almost half of voters believe that new rules for universal background checks could lead to the government confiscating legally-owned guns, according to a wide-ranging poll released Thursday.

The Quinnipiac University survey — which covered several subjects — also found that support most voters believe same-sex marriage should be a constitutional right rather than a state-by-state decision.

And it found 46 percent believe Obamacare will do more harm to them personally than good.

The poll of 1,711 registered voters, conducted between March 26 and April 1 showed that even though 48 percent of respondents thought background checks would lead to confiscations of legally-owned firearms, 91 percent support universal gun background checks — including 88 percent of those who live in households with guns.
