Former CIA head Calls Petraeus Timing "Mysterious"

Former CIA Director Michael Hayden on Monday called the timeline of when information concerning Gen. David Petraeus's sex scandal was released "mysterious."

"With regard to the timing, it's mysterious," Hayden, who served under President George W. Bush, said on Fox News's "America's Newsroom. " He added, "It appears the bureau was balancing the law enforcement process and the privacy of some individuals involved."

His comments came as news reports surfaced indicating that the Federal Bureau of Investigation knew about Petraeus's extramarital affair, and the circumstances surrounding it, months ago. Petraeus stepped down from his post as director of the CIA on Friday, citing the affair. Over the weekend, a series of damning reports emerged concerning the woman with whom he was having the affair, who was the subject of an FBI inquiry, reports said.
