Calls to Replace Secret Service Chief

No trust in her ability to lead after latest problems.

Congressman Elijah Cummings plans to ask the department of homeland security to put together a panel of experts to help form new, updated protocols for the Secret Service.

Furthermore, Cummings and another senior lawmaker on Capitol Hill on Wednesday urged Secret Service Director Julia Pierson to leave her job, saying they had lost confidence and trust in her ability to protect President Barack Obama. It came one day after Pierson spent hours during a congressional hearing trying to explain an embarrassing White House security breach.

Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, and Cummings unconditionally called for Pierson's ouster. They are senior congressmen on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. They notably did not call for Pierson's firing or resignation during the committee's hearing Tuesday but afterward changed their minds.

Chaffetz late Tuesday said Pierson should be fired. "It's time that she be fired by the president of the United States or she resign," he said.
