  • President Obama delayed a meeting on the current fiscal stalemate with Congressional leaders today in order to give Senators time to reach a deal. Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) said earlier today that the bipartisan group of Senators who met to discuss the government shutdown and the debt ceiling was making progress. Despite what you might have heard, the U.S. has defaulted before, once in 1812 and again in 1979.
  • Abu Anas al-Libi, the Al Qaeda suspect captured by U.S. Special Forces in Libya on Oct. 5, arrived in the United States today after being held on a U.S. Navy ship in the Mediterranean.
  • Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has called for easing restrictions on academic freedom.
  • Colorado's Democratic Governor John Hickenlooper has told national gun control groups to back off.
  • A Florida police department will no longer be taking part in operations aimed at luring people into buying cocaine from undercover police.
  • Two men, believed to be cousins, have been arrested for allegedly shooting five people at a Hmong New Year celebration in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Saturday night. None of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries.
