First Vote for Pope Expected Today
Not likely to produce a reportable result
The 115 voting cardinals marched into the Sistine Chapel on Tuesday to begin the papal conclave that will end with a successor being named for Pope Benedict XVI.
The first vote should take place within hours, but a new pope is not likely to be elected Tuesday. Not in centuries has a pope been elected on the first ballot. There will be one vote Tuesday, then four conclave votes per day starting Wednesday.
