The high school teacher who shot and killed his son after mistaking him for a burglar was unaware of who he had shot until police identified the body, authorities said Friday.

Authorities are still trying to piece together the events leading up to Thursday's shooting.

Tyler Giuliano, a 10th-grader at New Fairfield High School who turned 15 on Aug. 2, was shot shortly after 1 a.m. outside his aunt's house on Meeting House Hill Circle, according to witnesses and police. State Policeoffered no motive for the teenager's actions nor specified the weapon he was found holding.
