It's too soon to say whether politics played a role in the shooting of a security guard at a conservative policy organzation that has been a leading critic of same-sex marriage, according to a law enforcement official.

Floyd Lee Corkins II, 28, is being held on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon in Wednesday's shooting at the Family Research Council, a Christian group focused on family and anti-abortion issues and religious liberties.

Corkins allegedly walked into the group's headquarters about 10:45 a.m. Wednesday and opened fire.

A law enforcement official said the gunman made remarks opposing the council's policies before he fired. Investigators say it is too early to know whether the organization was targeted for its political views, but they made clear that would be part of the investigation.
