Just Following Orders

|

A judge has sentenced Beaumont, Texas, police officer James Cody Guedry to 90 days probation after he was convicted of official repressions. A jury convicted Guedry for Tasering Derrick Newman twice after a traffic stop. Another officer, David Todd Burke, was also convicted of oppression for repeatedly striking Newman with a baton during that same traffic stop. He received one year's probation. Judge John Stevens was more lenient to Guedry because he was a rookie officer "required to follow the orders of his superiors."
