Wang Shixiang went to Beijing to ask the government to prosecute corrupt police officers in his home province. But he was seized and confined with 40 other people. He was held without food for two days and beaten, then put on a train back home. Human rights activists say that each year government-hired thugs abduct thousands of people to keep them from petitioning officials about wrongdoing.
