In 2003, Congress officially banned imports from Myanmar, crushing its textile industry. In 2005 (with sanctions on Myanmar still in place), the U.S. renewed protectionist quotas on textile imports from China. One result:
Myanmar's textile industry has rebounded thanks to limits imposed by the U.S. and the European Union on imports from China, resulting in increased orders for the military-ruled Southeast Asian nation, an industry executive said Friday.
