Maggie of Arc Reaches Out

Young French rabble-rouser Sabine Herold has a new message in English for her international fans. An excerpt:

After decades of growing central state control, France is now facing one of the greatest challenge of its History : choosing between the road to freedom or the road to serfdom, as Hayek once wrote.25 per cent of the active population, between 20 and 60 years old, is working in the public sector. An average 55 per cent of our gross domestic product is captured and controlled by state administration. Our labor laws are so unfair and complicated that it is hard to tell if anyone in the country keeps track of their global purposes. We are suffering from a corrupted politician class, unable and unwilling to order the necessary change to a self-growing administration, as most of them are originally civil servants. Citizens of France lost most of their respect for these politicians, too skilled to travel through labyrinths of a nightmarish administration. Whether they claim to be politically right or left sided, their enduring incompetence allowed the far right extremist leader, Mr. Le Pen, to reach the last turn of our Presidential election, in may 2002, which is a shame, for all of us.
