In Memoriam: Morton B. Jackson
Tony Jackson, a good friend and Reason Foundation board member, died December 10 at his home in Pacific Palisades, California. He was 70 years old.
By profession, Tony was an attorney, most recently with the international law firm of Baker & McKenzie. But in reality, Tony was a Renaissance man. For the past two decades he was passionately involved with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and other music organizations. He was a board member of the Thomas Jefferson Research Center, which works with high school students on self-esteem and character education.
Tony's early career gave him a broad international background. After serving as a naval aviator in World War II (during which he received the Distinguished Flying Cross), he lived in Bangkok for three years in the 1950s working for an engineering firm, followed by four years in Geneva as assistant to the director of the Intergovernmental Commission for European Migration.
When he moved to Los Angeles in 1960 and joined a law firm, he also began an 18-year career in broadcasting. He hosted an award-winning weekly radio commentary program on KMPC, as well as a three-year weekly public affairs television program on KTLA.
Tony's long-standing commitment to freedom led him to subscribe to REASON, to become a supporter of the Reason Foundation, and, in 1988, to join the foundation's board. He was a superb board member. We will greatly miss his enthusiastic support.
