Does it seem as though your paycheck doesn't go as far as it did just a year ago? That's because taxes are taking a bigger bite out of it. The Tax Foundation estimates that in 1991 the average worker will spend 2 hours and 49 minutes of an 8-hour day working to satisfy federal, state, and local tax collectors—five minutes more than in 1990.
The Washington, D.C.-based research organization found that the largest single portion of an average person's work day is devoted to taxes.
