If only you weren't so beautiful
I would be a soaring, lonely bird again,
but free—

Now I am a strange struggling creature,
earthbound,
my foot caught in the trap of
memories.

This morning
I am deaf and blind—
You fill my mind.
I walk by touch and guess
For all I see
is your loveliness.
My senses are giving me
what they recall,
Not the present at all.
