Born and raised in Changsha, Hunan, Qinling Li has studied and practiced journalism in China, Australia, and the U.S. Her work has appeared on PBS Frontline, Al Jazeera English, Newsweek, Politico, the Christian Science Monitor, among others outlets. A graduate of Columbia Journalism School, Qinling was invited to return as an adjunct instructor in 2018. Her 2021 video reporting on transgender sex workers won first place in the Gender and Society category of the 63rd South California Journalism Awards, which is presented by the Los Angeles Press Club. A short film she produced and directed on African American gun rights took second place in the National Political/Government Reporting category.
