  • Obama portraitAbaca Press/Douliery Olivier/Abaca/Sipa USA/NewscomPresident Donald Trump's $4.4 trillion budget, unveiled today, would lead to more than $7 trillion in deficits over the next year due to large increases in military spending. Party of smaller government!
  • The official portraits of former President Barack Obama and wife Michelle Obama were unveiled today. That's an awful lot of shrubbery there.
  • The former commander of the Milwaukee County Jail and two staffers have been charged with felony misconduct over the dehydration death of an inmate last year.
  • A suspicious substance was mailed to the home of Donald Trump Jr. Three people there (including Trump Jr.'s wife, Vanessa) were taken to the hospital as a precaution, but the substance was deemed to be non-hazardous.
  • The Department of Education says they will not deal with complaints by transgender students about controls over which facilities they're permitted to use by school district. The Department of Justice last year said they were reversing course on guidance here and kicking the matter back down to states to decide.
  • No, there is not a murder wave targeting gay Americans. It's fundraising via fearmongering, Walter Olson explains.

    Three dimension chess.

    Barely.

    It's a cloud of chess pieces in zero gravity. Over time, it will collapse into a rotating disk.

    And then, mercifully, the heat death of the universe!

  • timbo||

    Obama is such a douche. Smug alert.

  • ||

    It can never be over stated or said enough.

    Obama: Not gone enough.

  • timbo||

    He sucked beyond the wildest dreams of his worshippers. He sucked so bad that his idiot horde had no concept of his terribleness. He actually said nothing of substance in 8 years. a total figure head puppet.

  • Chipper Morning Baculum||

    The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of Congress to correlate all its content.

  • ||

    Hello.

    $4 trillion? Wtf?

    I imagine it includes funding for....The Wall.

  • Don't look at me.||

    And we were losing our ass long before W came along.

  • CE||

    4.4. Who can get by on a mere 4 trillion?

  • Fist of Etiquette||

    That's an awful lot of shrubbery there.

    This is the moment Gaia reclaims her earth.

  • Mickey Rat||

    The disconnection from reality of the Obama portraits seems quite appropriate.

  • timbo||

    Few times in history has a stupider man been told he was the savior of all. That picture sums up that narcissistic pansy perfectly.

    would lead to more than $7 million in deficits

    I feel like that number is wrong. Or else the deficits did improve a lot.

  • Don't look at me.||

    See? A huge improvement and Trump still gets the rap.

  • $park¥ leftist poser||

    President Donald Trump's $4.4 trillion budget, unveiled today, would lead to more than $7 million in deficits over the next year due to large increases in military spending. Party of smaller government!

    $7 million? That's not even real money yet.

  • Careless||

    And now it says trillion, which also isnt right

  • TrickyVic (old school)||

    "President Donald Trump's $4.4 trillion budget, unveiled today, would lead to more than $7 trillion in deficits over the next year due to large increases in military spending. "'

    The headline is still wrong. It's 7 Trillion over the next 10 years.

    But to put that in perspective, Obama did 10T over 8 years.

  • BestUsedCarSales||

    The former commander of the Milwaukee County Jail and two staffers have been charged with felony misconduct over the dehydration death of an inmate last year.

    This is terrible, but I am also happy to see it's not just Arizona killing inmates.

    The official portraits of former President Barack Obama and wife Michelle Obama were unveiled today.

    What a bizarre picture. Why are his hands so big? Is that poison ivy?

  • Citizen X - #6||

    He looks so uncomfortable - both in the portrait, and in real life, introducing it.

  • Chipper Morning Baculum||

    It is not a virtue to be comfortable in an uncomfortable world.

    The irony is that Obama is a White Sox fan!

  • Conchfritters||

    I know - at least they got the city right. They probably preferred a wall of ivy to broken disco records and a dumpster fire.

  • Dick Puller, Attorney at Law||

    Well... I have to say - they got the portraits they deserved. Take that however you like.

  • CE||

    Why is he sitting on that chair? Didn't the White House have indoor plumbing?

  • Fist of Etiquette||

    A suspicious substance was mailed to the home of Donald Trump Jr.

    It was that Michelle Obama portrait.

  • BestUsedCarSales||

    No, there is not a murder wave targeting gay Americans.

    Look, I've been busy, okay?

  • Chipper Morning Baculum||

    The real question is whether there's been a Target wave Americanizing gay murderers.

  • Rat on a train||

    A wave of murderers gaying American Targets?

  • Rat on a train||

    I need a list, because I don't want to offend a store by failing to appreciate the seasonal decorations.

  • Episteme||

    It makes forensics' job more difficult when murder victims are restyled and redressed to look fabulous before the cops can secure the scene.

  • Fist of Etiquette||

    No, there is not a murder wave targeting gay Americans.

    That's not what The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story leads me to believe. Wait, was he American?

  • Fist of Etiquette||

    The Department of Education says they will not deal with complaints by transgender students about controls over which facilities they're permitted to use by school district.

    The lawsuit cited the state constitution, which prohibits a police officer from using deadly force unless the officer has reason to believe the target of such force poses an immediate threat of death or serious bodily injury to the officer or others.

    According to Trump's budget proposal, there would be increases in defense but steep cuts to social programs and Medicare.

    None of it will be implemented as Congress will chicken out on cutting Social Security and Medicare.

    Trump's fault or something

    Three people there (including Trump Jr.'s wife, Vanessa) were taken to the hospital as a precaution, but the substance was deemed to be non-hazardous.

    You call *domestic terrorism* "non-hazardous"?!

  • John||

    If it was sent for the purpose of scaring them because it looked like Anthrax, wouldn't that be "terrorism"?

  • BestUsedCarSales||

    Hey, maybe he wasn't trying to scare them. Maybe he was really trying to kill them but fucked up.

    There is always that possibility as well.

    Wait, a 4.4 trillion dollar budget will lead to a 7 trillion dollar deficit over the next year?

    That also seems wrong. Unless I missed an announcement that we are all getting a negative income tax this year. Are you sure it's not 7 trillion over ten years?

    In any case, pretty sure the deficit can not exceed the budget (unless revenue is actually negative)

  • Rich||

    That's why it's called "funny money", DUH!

  • ||

    Are you sure it's not 7 trillion over ten years?

    Actually, that's exactly what the linked article says.

  • Griffin3||

    It IS exactly what the article says. It still doesn't math, though.

  • CE||

    But not the Reason article. It says 7 trillion over the next year.

    No other president has gone on to become a renowned outsider artist.

  • Unlabelable MJGreen||

    I kinda like Obama's portrait. It's probably overwhelming in person. It'll grab you more than most of the other presidential portraits.

    Michelle Obama's portrait, on the other hand, looks like it's trying to turn her into Beyonce. It's a cool painting, just... a bit embellished, no?

  • Griffin3||

    It's like, the artist painted someone else, and called the finish product a portrait of Michelle Obama. Bless her heart, the arms aren't even right. Way to clean out some old paintings from the attic, Miss progressive SJW-style artist.

  • dantheserene||

    I would have gone through a lot of guesses before identifying her portrait.

    I'll give Tump one thing, he got the Media to question the high cost of war. Not questioning the cost, but questioning the claim that our wars in the middle east were particularly expensive.

    Cats and dogs, living together...

    That rises to an estimated $5.6 trillion or more when anticipated future spending on veterans and other factors related to the wars so far are added.

    Although that's an expensive commitment, it's far short of the $6 trillion or $7 trillion that Trump has been citing for several years, first as a candidate, then president. Even scholarly estimates involve ballpark projections, not just money that is gone.

    And now some of the money reflects Trump's own spending decisions. He's added a few thousand troops in Afghanistan and committed the U.S. to remaining there indefinitely.

    Obama said he tried to negotiate with Wiley about his look for the painting.
    "I tried to negotiate less gray hair, and Kehinde's artistic integrity would not allow him to do what I asked. I tried to negotiate smaller ears, struck out on that as well," joked Obama from the podium during his remarks.
    Obama also asked Wiley, who often depicts his subjects as regal and god-like, if the could ease up on those flourishes.

    Ain't that just typical of a politician, especially Mr "If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor.". Pick an artist, any artist, and then tell him how to do his job. But he didn't paint that!
