Led failed attempt to get background check bill passed through the senate

Sen. Joe Manchin is swinging back at the National Rifle Association's criticism of his support for background checks by releasing an ad of his own saying that he doesn't "walk in lock step" with the gun group's leaders.

"West Virginia, you know me," Manchin (D-W.Va.) says in the ad, which depicts him in a rural setting displaying a gun. "I haven't changed, and you know I've always fought for our gun rights."
