Medhi Zakerian was supposed to teach at the University of Pennsylvania's law school this year. But shortly before he was scheduled to leave Iran, the human rights scholar was detained by the Iranian government. Authorities have not charged Zakerian or explained why he is being held, but human rights groups say he was likely arrested to send a message to other Iranian activists to keep silent.
