Rain, Rain Go Away
School officials in Orange County, Florida, refused to release students to parents at 3 p.m. one Friday. In fact, they held them inside schools, while parents waited, until around 9 p.m. Why? Thunderstorms were blanketing the area, and the school system has a policy of refusing to allow children to go outside until at least 30 minutes after the last lightning flash or thunder clap. After complaints from parents, the school system says it will review the policy.
