Victoria, Australia, police have announced plans to randomly stop people on the streets and search them for weapons. Police say the searches are not a response to any particular incident and are not aimed at finding any particular types of weapons. "These types of proactive approaches mean that we have intelligence-led policing that can deter crime before it happens," said a police official.
