The No. 1 Libertarian Blog? You're Reading It.

A website dedicated to web entrepreneurship comes up with a thorough and useful list of "The Top 100 Libertarian Blogs." Why?

While we at WebPreneur typically try to steer clear of politics, it is clear that issues such as net neutrality and controlling the size and scope of government are of increasing importance to web entrepreneurs. Thus a growing number of web entrepreneurs are expressing new found interest in libertarian principles. So to assist those of you interested in educating yourselves further, we’ve sorted through thousands of sites and selected the best of the best for what we believe to be the top 100 libertarian blogs...

Coming in at number one is this very blog you are reading, reason's Hit and Run.

Hit and Run has been previously praised by Playboy as one of "five winning political blogs" and by Washingtonian as one of the "best political blogs." Of course, what we are proudest of is how every day we are able to earn the attention and readership of each and every one of you.

No Instapundit or QandO?

I'm all for Libertarian Hotties, but come on.

At least they got Volokh. Eugene for CJotSCOTUS!

JW | November 12, 2008, 12:04pm | #

There's actually 100 that are worth reading?

Of course, what we are proudest of is how every day we are able to earn the attention and readership of each and every one of you.

I think I just got a partial woody from that.

JLM | November 12, 2008, 12:04pm | #

Was there ever any question about who is #1?

Pro Libertate | November 12, 2008, 12:05pm | #

No Urkobold? But, but, we're "a widely-read libertarian culture site"!

Hit & Run deserves such recognition, in any case.

mitch | November 12, 2008, 12:08pm | #

What with Weigel, I think that reason.com is also the #1 Democratic party blog.

R C Dean | November 12, 2008, 12:08pm | #

Thus a growing number of web entrepreneurs are expressing new found interest in libertarian principles.

Given the reports of widespread support for Obama in Silicon Valley, they must have found their interest in libertarian principles since November 4.

This is a Libertarian blog?
I thought this was an Obama blog.
If that is the case, then screw you Glibertarians.

Finally! A list of libertarian blogs in which Reason not only beat GovExec and FederalTimes but DC Cocktail Party Chatter Weekly! Congrats!

Of course, some unknown website's naming of Reason as something or other pre-dated Weigel's recent post in which he downplayed BHO's "civilian force" and didn't even think about what happens when that "force" comes back to the "homeland" and whether they could be activated here.

Contributors -

Allow me to extend my congratulations for getting some well deserved recognition, guys and gals.

Commenters who actually contribute something to the discuassion can take an unacknowledged bow as well.

Also, congratulations to Balko for placing 5th. He is a major contributor to libertarianism and awareness of very important issues.

Not that the question pertains to me.

Weigel's recent post in which he downplayed BHO's "civilian force"

This would be the post that says the force is "not a good idea" but takes issue with the claim that it was "exactly what Hitler did in Nazi Germany."

Creating this website has given me an excuse to network with some of the most beautiful, interesting, intelligent women I've ever met. If they are able to use their physical charms to draw attention and further disseminate a worthwhile message, then hey, bonus. ;)

The frequently p0wned Jesse Walker says This would be the post that says the force is "not a good idea" but takes issue with the claim that it was "exactly what Hitler did in Nazi Germany."

Good to know Weigel doesn't think it should be top of BHO's list, but somehow his condemnation was a little on the light side and didn't include him showing any evidence of being able to think through all the implications. And, he ended with "Obama is proposing a new civilian force that he'd command as he commands every branch of the military." OK!

Say, has Jesse Walker ever walked back that smear of me?

Not ironic at all, Alanis. Too bad you hate it though. Why do you still hang around?

TheOneState | November 12, 2008, 2:05pm | #

Wow, deep field!

But the blogs are grouped by theme, not ordered by overall rank. So technically you're *tied* for number 1 with "Libertarian Party of Allen County" etc.

Not that that's not an accomplishment....

concerned observer | November 12, 2008, 2:06pm | #

Hey Boston, guess how many syllables the word "observer" has. Why don't you respond to something I actually said, rather than making juvenile insults?

SugarFree | November 12, 2008, 2:11pm | #

JW,

It's probably him. Look at the completely incorrect way he used the term "cognitive dissonance."

Thinking that a half-literate ass-stain whose only purpose is to hurl crude insults correlates to possessing a tiny penis is, in no way, shape, form, or fashion, cognitive dissonance.

concerned observer | November 12, 2008, 2:13pm | #

@Sugarfree-"Ass stain"? Who's the one hurling curde insults?

concerned observer | November 12, 2008, 2:14pm | #

Come on, CO, tell us more tall tales about your literacy. I bet no one noticed that you somehow managed to write "irrelevent" and "relevant" in THE SAME POST earlier.

SugarFree | November 12, 2008, 2:22pm | #

FrBunny,

He must put on his righteous armor and slay the dread Reason dragon, home of the simultaneously incredibly dangerous and utterly irrelevant libertarianism.

Which is, of course a fine example of, wait for it... cognitive dissonance.

Jefferson | November 12, 2008, 2:22pm | #

You are welcome.

concerned observer | November 12, 2008, 2:26pm | #

@Sugarfree-You libertarians are rightly ignored most of the time. However when some people are actually stupid enought to believe anything you say, it really fucks things up.

SugarFree | November 12, 2008, 2:29pm | #

Thank goodness you're here to put a stop to all our nonsense with hyperbolic insults and an army of strawmen. That totally distracts from your minuscule penis. Which I see you haven't even bothered to deny...

zoltan | November 12, 2008, 2:29pm | #

Is it not a coincidence that CO has the same initials as "Correctional Officer". Methinks he might have a corresponding intelligence quotient to that group. Of course, you can counter that the leader of a gypsy band couldn't possibly be too smart either.

SugarFree | November 12, 2008, 2:31pm | #

And yes, everyone, I'll stop feeding the troll.

concerned observer | November 12, 2008, 2:36pm | #

I don't see why my penis size is an issue, but it's perfectly normally sized. It's not my fault that you people have a phallic obsession.

JW | November 12, 2008, 2:44pm | #

Hey Boston, guess how many syllables the word "observer" has.

Hey moran, Boston didn't say that. Besides, we all know your mom wrote that for you.

Crude: Characterized by simplicity, especially something not carefully or expertly made.

I really think he meant curd. He clearly has issues with not only spelling, but also with Big Milk.

Yeah, I'll stop feeding it now too. After a while, smacking around 13-year olds it just gets boring.

Shane P. Brady | November 12, 2008, 2:52pm | #

Ed Niedermeyer | November 12, 2008, 3:02pm | #

No surprise here, only one beef. Where is your coverage of the auto industry bailout? You people every hear of British Leyland? It's about to happen here, and every time I check H&R I expect to see the topic get the trademark Reason treatment. Granted, there's a whole world of turd to cover, but the #1 libertarian blog should be all over this issue.

Otherwise, keep kicking ass!

hlm | November 12, 2008, 3:09pm | #

While Reason's blog is great that list isn't. From the looks of it they did a google search for libertarian blogs and compiled the first 100 they found. Clearly the writer of the article doesn't spend much time reading the blogs since some listed are rather pathetic while other good blogs are ignored.

Jesse Walker | November 12, 2008, 3:09pm | #

If you want background information about the failures of Free Trade and the so called Free Market, go to Tapart News and Art that Talks since 1994 with data back to 1956 related to so called Free Trade.

We need to first define what the term Free Enterprise means and what Fair Trade means before letting loose so called Free Market idealogy that is not really Free.

Far too many Free Market enthusiasts are like horses leaving the starting gate without the jockey.

Most of the Free Market today is based on making money on money instead of making things. The only real value left in the USA as a money standard is labor and workers. And unfortunately, workers have no voice in the Free Market process during our times.
