McCain Camp Consults with Precogs, Celebrates Victory

At least an hour before John McCain announced he'd even be attending tonight's debate, his campaign had already bought ads declaring he won it.

"McCain Wins Debate!" declares the ad which features a headshot of a smiling McCain with an American flag background. Another ad spotted by our eagle-eyed observer featured a quote from McCain campaign manager Rick Davis declaring: "McCain won the debate-- hands down."

Here's a screenshot.

Is it "McCain won debate" or "McCain took de bait"?

James | September 26, 2008, 1:54pm | #

McCain looks more like a decrepit old senile man every time I see him...along side him is his bumbling stuttering hayseed running mate who even the National Review thinks is out of her league...

I think it funny that the paper missed it when they uploaded content.

McCain Camp Consults with Precogs, Celebrates Victory

Who says Republicans don't pay attention to minorities?

"McCain Wins Debate!"
That sure is good to know.
Now I can watch Friday Night SmackDown in its entirety.

ClubMedSux | September 26, 2008, 2:00pm | #

In their defense, it could be that they're simply preparing the ads in the event that McCain wins the debate, sort of like how they print up championship shirts for both teams before the Super Bowl.

Yeah... that's the ticket.

Episiarch | September 26, 2008, 2:02pm | #

As amusing as this is, I'm sure Obama's camp has done the same thing. They were just more circumspect about it.

BakedPenguin | September 26, 2008, 2:07pm | #

I could see McCain as Leo Bulero.

Fluffy | September 26, 2008, 2:25pm | #

Maybe they got a prediction of the future from one of the witches Sarah Palin's church gathered up for burning.

Maybe they got a prediction of the future from one of the witches Sarah Palin's church gathered up for burning.

Fortunately for our sensitivities, Obama's madrassa only stones apostates and "whores".

bigbigslacker | September 26, 2008, 2:37pm | #

I'm with clubmedsux. Surely they also had a "McCain gets it handed to him" ad all lined up as well.

joe | September 26, 2008, 2:38pm | #

Damn, I haven't seen the "Obama's a Muslim" thing in months.

Did you hear about his birth certificate?

Fluffy | September 26, 2008, 2:39pm | #

Fortunately for our sensitivities, Obama's madrassa only stones apostates and "whores".

Is there a YouTube link of Obama holding hands and accepting a blessing from a madrassa imam who stones apostates and whores?

Because there's one of Palin doing that at her church with a minister who hunts witches.

I think "Let's go burn some witches" trumps Reverend Wright's "God damn America" but maybe that's just me.

miche,

The papers don't usually upload the ads. They hire an ad serving company, give them guidelines as to what is and isn't allowable and the ad serving company puts up the ads based on demographics, content and other info they may have on you in your cookies.

Did you hear about his birth certificate?

The forged one that he released or the real one in Mombasa?

miche | September 26, 2008, 3:20pm | #

Thanks Mo. Didn't know that. I assumed that the ads were pre-bought and the paper had somebody in charge of loading content. But then, I'm just a woman with too much time on my hands so I run my own blog.

R C Dean | September 26, 2008, 3:20pm | #

Yeah, like neither camp does this before every debate.

"Well, [insert candidate here], as soon as the debate is over and the reaction is in, say, by the end of the next day, we'll start putting our post-debate ads together. And, if enough people say you got pwned, well, that's exactly what we'll say in our ad."

lunchstealer | September 26, 2008, 3:22pm | #

That's a weird ass head shot on that ad, by the way. The caption could equally be "McCain breaks neck - but he's still smilin'!"

Mo | September 26, 2008, 3:26pm | #

RC,

True. But it shows a significant lack of clue to do it early. At least the newspapers that printed "Dewey Wins!" had the excuse of printing deadlines.

joe | September 26, 2008, 3:31pm | #

Yeah, like neither camp does this before every debate.

Of course they do. They just don't usually screw it up like this.

J sub, I mean the birth certificate that lists his real middle name, "Mohammed." He just changed it to "Hussein" to sound more mainstream.

Fair And Balanced | September 26, 2008, 3:50pm | #

Well, it's only fair, with the media already claiming Obama won the election (unless you're all RACISTS! you're not RACISTS, are you? then I guess Obama won)

creech | September 26, 2008, 4:06pm | #

Does the ad mention that McCain was a POW in North Vietnam for 5 1/2 years? Most of America doesn't know.

joe | September 26, 2008, 4:06pm | #

Wow, meltdown mode.

If John McCain loses this debate tonight, people are going to start jumping off buildings.

joe | September 26, 2008, 4:08pm | #

...clutching tire gauges.

BDB | September 26, 2008, 5:28pm | #

Joe-

Mark my words. The MSM will pronounce McCain the winner short of a spectacular meltdown. They want a horse race that badly.

America | September 26, 2008, 5:43pm | #

Initial pride in the fact that my state would be host to the first presidential debate of this historic campaign has turned to absolute disgust and outrage. The Mississippi White Knights also plan to attend.

BDB | September 26, 2008, 5:44pm | #

And Fred Phelps will be there. And the 9/11 Troofers. And Ron Paul supporters. And..

BDB | September 26, 2008, 5:46pm | #

I'm sure ANSWER will make an apperance, too. Watching the fringe protest groups is half the fun!

BG | September 26, 2008, 6:09pm | #

Yeah, like neither camp does this before every debate.

Creating ads saying "we won", yes.

Running those ads before the debate, not so much.

If McCain makes a victory speech on November 3, will you say "Well all candidates write victory speeches before the actual election results are in, nothing to see here"?

Libertarian | September 26, 2008, 7:01pm | #

It's like The Party from "1984" adjusting the record after the fact.....except they've realized, "why wait to change history after the fact? Do it now!"
