Like "a president... growing befuddled by routine tasks -- or... a president, wearied by age, [without] the energy needed to perform well" would be a bad thing?

Haven't you heard? 70 is the new 59. But he is starting to get his geezer on.

How old is Ron Paul again?

John Who?

Oh, you mean the guy who sabotaged his own candidacy years ago with McCain-Feingold?

Am I the only one who thinks he wasn't joking when he said he'd draft that kid if he won? I bet the Secret Service already has his name on file.

McCain's put downs of young people is hardly new. A colleague heard him make several nasty rejoinders at a speech at Yale last year.
Ask anyone who has passed 60 and you'll probably find they have less tolerance for stress, less patience, less desire to "waste time" looking at alternatives. I don't know that we'd want those traits in any president, even a Libertarian one.

Not if you long for the Reagan administration like many do.

I'm less worried about a 72-year-old Ron Paul, since his goal is to do as little as possible outside of making the Federal government smaller. He might get bored strolling around Washington D.C. saying "You're fired!" 2 or 3 million times, but that's a completely different kind of tired.

I don't know about the secret service, but the selective sevice will shortly. ;-(

rho,

That's a good point. I think we all could find heretofore unknown reserves of energy if we were given the opportunity to do such a thing.

"August 15, 2009 - President McCain made an impromptu speech today to a group of people on the Mall - 'Hey! You kids! Get off my lawn!!!'"

SeeingI | September 10, 2007, 2:57pm | #

I, too, found McCain's joke in the worst possible taste. Maybe authority is the revenge age takes on youth. Hey, did I just make up an aphorism? Anyway, way to deflect question about your own competence with a "joking" threat of bodily harm. Douche.
