Attention Print Subscribers: Warning about bogus renewal notices

It has come to our attention that some of our print edition subscribers have received a "Notice of Renewal/New Order" mailer in recent days from a third party identifying itself as Publishers Periodical Service.  The notice directs payments to a mailing address in White City, OR, as well as an online form at the website "publisherspayment.com."

Please be aware that this company is not authorized to solicit or accept renewals or new orders or payments for Reason magazine subscriptions.

Please do not pay any billing or renewal notices from Publishers Periodical Service.

We have also learned that this company operates under a variety of other names with a mailing address in Reno, NV.  More information, including a long list of company aliases, is available here and here.   Many other publishers and subscribers are also affected by what this company is doing.

If you have any questions about your subscription or any notice you receive by mail or email, please contact Reason's customer service team by phone at 1-888-732-7668 (Mon-Fri between 8 am and 5 pm central time) or by email at subscribe@reason.com.  Or email me at malissi@reason.com.

Thanks very much for your subscription to Reason.

You know, there really ought to be a law against doing that.

I hope nobody was fooled by such an obvious scam.

    Especially Reason's vulnerable elderly subscribers.

  • Fist of Etiquette| |

Don't renew my subscription. Got it.

  • sloopyinca| |

Wait, you mean I just renewed at $8 a month and gave my credit card info, SSN and DOB under dubious circumstances?

Not to worry, I've got a bunch of money coming my way from an African prince soon enough.

Those scammers have been doing this for all kinds of magazines and I get at least one a week if not more. Scumbags.

  • Spiny Norman| |

This wouldn't be happening if Bush hadn't deregulated everything.

  • | |

    Yes, this.

  • Spoonman.| |

    Market failure!

Is this illegal or just scummy?

  • Tulpa the White| |

Oops, I did respond to that mailing. But all I sent was a box of flaming dog poop and a letter complaining about the treatment of Mitt Romney and red light cameras.

  • The Hammer| |

So you sent them the last issue of Reason?

  • Michael| |

Reason's subscription renewal notice should be an issue with everything but the Steve Chapman articles torn out.

By the way, thanks for the heads up. I got one of the bogus notices in the mail earlier this week.

  • Suki| |

This is the greatest outrage of them all.

    CANCEL MY SUBSCRIPTION!

  • The Hammer| |

This kind of crap never happened when Postrel was in charge.
