The GOP’s inability to deal with the Ron Paul
phenomenon indicates a party in menopause, writes Senior Editor Tim
Cavanaugh. Even against the seemingly lightweight competition of
the Obama brain trust, the Republicans have no stomach for budget
cutting and therefore refuse to take Ron Paul and his libertarian
ideas seriously. No wonder the media are fascinated by Donald
Trump’s chances of becoming the Republican presidential candidate
in 2012. The GOP will have nobody but itself to blame when its
2012 rosters turn out to be laughingstocks.
