The head of a private firm that
contracted to do autopsies in Mississippi is arrested for pot
possession. Mississippi's public safety commissioner finally hires
a state medical examiner, the first time in 15 years the office has
been filled—only to have his new hire back out at the last minute.
Plus, destroyed autopsy reports, missing evidence, and one longtime
critic of controversial medical examiner Steven Hayne switches
sides. Reason Senior Editor Radley Balko reports on the
latest developments in the surreal, ongoing saga of the Magnolia
State's search for a competent death investigations
system.
