Jacob Sullum notes, The New York Times has been an
inconsistent defender of First Amendment rights. Sullum says the
distinctions drawn by the Times are hard to justify on
constitutional grounds but make more sense if you assume the
paper's editorialists are not eager to defend people's rights when
they have trouble identifying with them.
