A CDC-commissioned report
released last week concluded that smoking bans cause
substantial drops in heart attack rates soon after they take
effect. But in their eagerness to promote such laws, Senior
Editor Jacob Sullum says, the report's authors ignored contrary
evidence and glossed over the implausibility of achieving
immediate, dramatic reductions in heart attacks by reducing
exposure to secondhand smoke.
