The Associated Press has an anecdote-based story out about how "Tough political realities quiet youth 'Obamamania.'" Sample:
"It's one thing to get excited about a presidential candidate. It's another thing to become a responsible citizen," says Jennifer Donahue, political director for the New Hampshire Institute Of Politics. She and other political analysts thinks they have yet to prove themselves.
Professors and students themselves also are noticing the quiet on college campuses, which were hotbeds for "Obamamania" during the campaign.
"They're supportive, but in a bystander kind of way," says Laura Katz Olson, a political science professor at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania. [...]
An AP-GfK poll conducted earlier this month found that two-thirds of 18- to 29-year-olds rated such reform as "very" or "extremely" important. So far, though, the proposed health care overhauls have failed win the support of a good number of them. Only about half of them said they approved of the way the president was handling health care and only 38 percent said they supported health care plans being discussed in Congress.
Not sure I find this convincing, though I did predict it.

Next year (which is only a few months off) Congress will be in
full speed ahead election mode. Obama is getting close to being out
of time on most of his major policy efforts. The bailouts may have
just spiked them.
I wonder what will happen if Obama loses to say Romney (is he the
Republican frontrunner right now?) in 2012?
I find it hilarious. Hopefully they learned something from their disappointment and it will change the way they think about politicians in the future.

future.
That is some bitter sarcasm for this early in the morning. Like
burnt coffee on the tongue, it is.
So far, though, the proposed health care overhauls have
failed win the support of a good number of them.
I wonder if this could have anything to do with the uncomfortable
realization that the Ascended One wants to stick his hand deep into
their pockets and coerce them into subsidizing the old folks
(again).
What, you mean young people are shallow, easily distracted and rarely if ever commit to the hard work that goes along with actually changing things? I am shocked. Considering that when youth really do get involved in something long term it usually results in things like the Reign of Terror, the Third Reich, the Cultural Revolution and the Khmer Rouge, I for one am very happy to hear American youth are still as callow and easily distracted as they ever were.
I wonder how many of those who have cooled on "Obamamania"
because he hasnt been liberal enough for them?
Does the health care overhaul have a 62% disapproval amongst this
group because they demand nothing short of a single payer
system?
Look I am all for Obama's popularity slipping and people being
exposed to the fact that he is not only woefully under-qualified to
be President but that his ideas are wrong for America but not all
disapproval comes from the same perspective.
I don't know about the rest of you but when I was 6 or so, I
lived next to an old man that literally would yell at me to get out
of his yard. Totally my fault. His yard was a shortcut to my
friends up the street.
He's dead now.
SFree-
Dead from your hand? Is he buried in a basement somewhere?
BR
SF,
You started killing people at age 6. No wonder you became a
libertarian. You couldn't get past your sociopathic self
regard.
Dear Reason,
Your server has been fucked up for 2 days.
Fix it.
That is all.
Whenever my Obamatron friends start their regurgitations about what "we need to do" or "they (whomever they mean by they) should do", I simply ask them if they contribute their own time or money to an existing charity relevant to their cause du jour. Why wait for da gummint? Charities exist RIGHT NOW if they're so hellfire intent on changing the world.
plisade,
Health insurance for a reasonably healthy person can't be more than
a few hundred dollars a month. That isn't much money for many upper
middle class and wealthy Obama supporters. If they think not having
insurance is such a horror, then why not go out and buy health
insurance for some poor uninsured person? It could be like those
old "adopt a starving child" programs.
As always, the devil is in the details.
Obama and the Dems would hve been better advised to attack the
health care "crisis" piecemeal. Getting real changes to the system
without overturning so much that actually works would have made
garnering the necessary majorities in congress easier.
Raising the income threshold for medicare by 10% while
simultaneously reducing the earned income tax credit payments by a
like amount would have increased the number of insured without
busting the budget. It would also have been easier to limit the
horse trading and speciaql interest boondoggles that
always accompany a massive bill.
Similarly, repealing the McCarran-Ferguson Act would allow many to
purchase bare bones coverage that is currently prohibited in their
state. Probably doable and certainly defensible for both Dems and
GOPers. The health insurance companies and state regulataory
bureaucrats would be the big losers, neither goroup has huge public
support.
I think more people are watching the sausage being made* and
finding the end product a lot less enticing as a result.
* The operative word here is think. I could be wrong on this (but I
doubt it).

Nutrasweet Bonner, aka Aspartame the Kid -
There was one of those in my neighborhood as well. He had grown his
lawn from seed and was quite proud of it. The neighborhood kids
used the street for baseball and touch football regularly and
invariably trespassed on the poor guys lawn.
We didn't kill him though.

Those kids still like him. Apparently the teacher does too.
In regards to Seward's comment, I think 2012 is going to be the first election in a veeeeeeeeery long time that a 3rd party candidate has a shot. If we can remind the people of how things were with Bush, and they have a fresh memory of how this are with Obama, they might be willing to try something else. Even if the 3rd party candidate loses (as they most likely will), it will put them on the map as a serious contender.
Obama was never "cool". Being "inspirational" and "hopeful"
isn't "cool". He was an object of worship; a vessel within which
all the retards put faith and empty promises. People don't think
that their various cult leaders are cool, they think they are
practically demigods. There's a big difference. Obama is losing the
infallibility shine that he had, and that's what is turning the
worshiping kids off.
It's like if Christians found out that Jesus didn't turn water into
wine--it would strip away some of the magic.
Even if the 3rd party candidate loses (as they most likely
will), it will put them on the map as a serious
contender.
Hard to believe Perot nabbed nearly 20% of the popular vote in
92.

gain
I hope this means he sold the old man's organs on the black
market.

Fixed it for you. No black markets. Everything is legal to sell,
even slaves. Remember?
I spared his life. The ravages of old age are crueler than
anything I can think of.
But I do have a raw, libertarian lust for personal gain. That's why
I work as a photographic archivist. But my greed will overtake me
one day and I have to move on the greener pastures of gas station
attendant or grade school janitor to make some real money at
last.
Ska: Exactly, and got Clinton elected with a 43% plurality. (I remember that number because shortly afterward, he was referring to the 43 Republicans then in the Senate as an "obstructionist minority." Irony!) I'm sure Obama would love to see a third party do well in 2012, because it will split the anti-Obama vote.
"Raw, libertarian lust for personal gain" would be a great tagline for a porno. I need potential titles, people.
I liked this quote tho:
'"It's one thing to get excited about a presidential candidate.
It's another thing to become a responsible citizen," says Jennifer
Donahue, political director for the New Hampshire Institute Of
Politics. She and other political analysts thinks they have yet to
prove themselves.'"
Note the point: It's not that Obama is losing young supporters, or
that they are justified in becoming less enthusiatic about him.
It's that the young are not "responsible" enough to stand by him.

Ann Randy?
The female lead practically writes itself, as The Emperor points out. This has potential.

Yes, but at least you little whippersnapper is out of my yard.

I'm sure Obama would love to see a third party do well in
2012, because it will split the anti-Obama vote.
I'm sure he'd prefer that the Republicans puke out another McCain
type, to split the anti-Obama bloc into voters and non-voters, just
like last in '08, without making "split anti-Obama vote" an obvious
take on the results.
I wonder what will happen if Obama loses to say Romney (is
he the Republican frontrunner right now?) in 2012?
Romney and his supporters, along with the rest of the country, will
be deemed racists.
Romney and his supporters, along with the rest of the country, will be deemed racists.
Perhaps they'll run "Rock '12" or "Cent '12".
50 Cent as president would be amusing.
The problem with the young:
Recently a friend and his 8 year old visited Baltimore and I spent
the day with them. It was the young lad's first exposure to
pan-handlers, and he thought giving them money was the right thing
to do. So I gave the 8 year old 10 bucks, and told him he could
keep all of it, give a portion or all of it away.

I've been hearing that for years. The majority of Americans are too
caught up in their left, right, us vs. them mindset. Both teams
often use the if you're not for X, then you're for Y arguement.
They can't let the rise of a third party, it will confuse them.

Dammit! You used to be able to post the code if you used HTML code for the less-than and greater-than symbols. Crap.
Does anyone remember when Obama conspired with the Chicago Tribune and a corrupt judge to release the sealed divorce records of his opponent in the U.S. Senate race?
