New at Reason: Michael Moynihan on the Disappearance of the Free Trade Democrat

Like much else emanating from the White House these days, the Obama administration's position on trade is incoherent and contradictory. In response to criticism about his recent decision to slap a 35 percent tariff on Chinese tires, the president maintained that he "want[ed] to further expand trade." But as Senior Editor Michael C. Moynihan writes, Obama can't promote free trade by practicing protectionism.
