Let us remember on this day that we not only have Islamofascist enemies from without trying to destroy our country, but big government Socialists/Fascists from within doing the same.

We the People are FED UP and it's going to get ugly soon. There's going to be riots in the streets and violence the likes of which has been never seen! We're not going to take any shit from Barney Frank and Chris Dodd anymore. We're going to smash ACORN, too. It's going to get ugly!

I'm not nearly as scared of terrorists as I am of my government protecting me from terrorists. And even less scared of either of those as I am of my government protecting me from drugs.

Good point, Brian. The estimate I read a couple of years ago from the Wall Street Journal said that the War on Drugs kills 2,000 Americans a year. That puts the 8 year total at 16,000. Compare that to about 3,000 from 9/11, about 6,000 from the War in Iraq, and about 1,000 from the War in Afghanistan. The War on Drugs is much deadlier than Al-Q.

There is a movement to turn 9/11 into a day of unpaid service. I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, I like the idea of promoting unity and peace on 9/11. On the other hand, promoting volunteerism is a bit off the mark. Bin Laden's rants denounced both capitalism and America's military presence around the World. He targeted the World Trade Center, because it was a symbol of Americans peacefully reaching across the globe through economic interactions. He targeted the Pentagon, because it was the center for the military that maintains Pax Americana. Capitalism and defense maintain unity and peace just as surely as nonprofit work does. I think we would more accurately uphold the spirit of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon if we held town wide garage sales and Guardian Angel patrols.

Actually, I think he targeted these sites in part because they were easy to spot from an airliner.

Jtuf - a few friends posted a facebook poll about making 9/11 a holiday. we all agreed that it would be awekward at best because like this year, Labor Day fell on in the same week. Sooner or later one holiday would get lost or the two would be combined a la President's Day and we wind up where we are with every other 'solemn day of rememberance' with big sales, parades, and three day weekends.

i'm actually getting kind of tired with 9/11 and all of the ritual that comes with it.
