Next Wednesday
the Supreme Court will hear a rare second round of oral arguments
in the campaign finance reform case Citizens United v. Federal
Election Commission. According to a number of prominent
liberal commentators, the justices should respect precedent and
vote to uphold the federal ban on corporate speech. But as
Associate Editor Damon W. Root writes, the Court's primary
responsibility should be protecting the First Amendment.
