Respectable commentators this summer are warning about the violence that is "likely to explode" in Obama's America, fueled by nativist whites who "feel pushed out of the way by liberals, people of color and immigrants." These extremists, we are being told, are analogous to "brownshirts" in Weimar Germany, and thus form a clear and present danger to Americans' safety. This analysis is not only wrong, argues Reason Editor in Chief Matt Welch, it also has the potential to produce unhappy side effects, and reflects a telling, bipartisan lack of faith in America.
