Peter Schiff, president of the brokerage firm Euro Pacific Capital, has become famous as the man who accurately predicted the housing and financial collapses of 2008. Now he wants to become famous for being the Ron Paul-type outsider (complete with moneybombs!) who unseats longtime Connecticut Sen. Christopher Dodd.
Schiff, co-author of the forthcoming Crash Proof 2.0: How to Profit From the Economic Collapse, is among the most prominent adherents to the Austrian School of economics, and its emphases on sound money and limited government. In this Reason.tv interview with Reason Editor in Chief Matt Welch, shot at FreedomFest in Las Vegas just days after Schiff announced the formation of his exploratory committee, the potential politician warns that the U.S. is headed toward Zimbabwe-like hyperinflation unless Washington changes course.
Approximately 5 minutes. Shot and edited by Dan Hayes.

I wonder if he believes, like Murray Rothbard, that fractional reserve banking is inherently fraudulent.
Why should I donate to someone who hasn't officially started a campaign? I'd love to see Schiff elected but there's no way I'm giving him money if he's not even running yet.
roo, I believe I got an email that said he would refund campaign donations if he ends up not running. Check for yourself, I may have misread or there may have been conditions.
It's just a pledge, roo; he'll return the money if he chooses not to run.
I've also been working on something like "Got a Little Corporal in ya?" (you know, a little Austrian) but I'm still polishing it.
Schiff talks the talk, but he talks it like he's selling used
cars. I got bit supporting Ron Paul after I followed his actions in
office for ten years. I'd love to see Schiff in the Senate, but I
don't trust him.
I do find his economic analysis compelling. I'm sitting on my hoard
of gold.
Bring on the DOOM baby!
Why does he think actually being *in* the Senate will enable him to convince folks? Ears to hear, and all that ...
Does Schiff believe his father's nuttiness? I've never been able to find out. I would guess that he does, which is a big strike in my book.
You know who else liked kittens?
Hitler
Actually, Hitler hated cats. So did Napoleon.
Probably something to do with a cat's complete disregard for those
who would rule him.
I wonder if he believes, like Murray Rothbard, that fractional reserve banking is inherently fraudulent.
He does
not:
No, I think it is fine as long as it exists without any government guarantees or government-insured deposits.

Kitlers
LOVED Hitler
At least the people had the top inch of their head this time. Laces
out Space above heads DAN!!!
He looks better than the rest of the turds. But that's the inherent
problem with comparing anything to a turd.
During WW1, Hitler preferred eating cats to dogs. He was heartbroken when the dog he and his buddies adopted vanished. This is 100% true.
I have already contributed to Peter's campaign and I will volunteer for him if he decides to run. This man is truly committed to libertarian ideals, and it would be incredible to have his voice in the hellhole that is Washington DC.
When you vote for a socialist president, you're doing exactly what Zimbabwe did. The solution is to get him out of office ASAP.

I'm genuinely curious as to what he did that both surprised and
offended you. He's a pretty straight shooter.

That shows how much I've been paying attention, as I was going to
make an Irwin joke. I had no idea Peter was Irwin's son.
For anyone interested in Peter's views on his father's whole
situation watch this vid.

You can watch the whole thing, or you can skip to where he speaks
abotu his father, which starts around the 19:00 min mark.

1) The Newsletters. I hold him completely culpable, and found his
response wholly unsatisfactory.
2) The TV ads (NH primary). After campaigning (and governing) as a
constitution textualist, non interventionist, and sound money
politician, he used the bulk of my money to run ads that
essentially said "Vote for me, I'm almost like everybody else in
this race".

He does not. He thinks the merits of his fathers reasoning are
irrelevant. As a matter of constitutional law, the income tax may
not be valid, but the government has already demonstrated that
they're willing to throw you in jail and take your stuff if you
don't pay what they say you owe. Game over, move along.
Warren,
The newsletters were old news well before Paul started
running.
I know you know this.
I still dont understand anyone HERE's reaction - reason had done
their newsletter hit pieces well in advance.

you're poor like me. If he ends up NOT running, he'll give your
money back.
If this campaign is anything like Ron Paul's, Reason will cheer it on until it actually starts to show a chance of winning and then it will "discover" the shocking (shocking!) fact that Schiff's dad is in prison for tax evasion.
I think it would be a shame to have an honest man turn into a politician.

Having listened to it just now, it seems to me that he does believe
his dad's nuttiness, at least parts of it. He explicitly states
that wages are not income. While he might not be the type of guy
who starts ranting at the sight of a gold fringe on a flag, I do
think he is far too cozy with the ideas of the tax denial
movement.

In advance of what? Also, you have no idea what you're talking
about.
Matt, you were part of the anti-austrian anti-paleoconservative
cosmotarian conspiracy to bring down ron paul.
do not deny it. WHY DO YOU HATE FREEDOM?
I'm sitting on my hoard of gold.
You do that. Because I'm sitting on my horde, which will take all
your gold after the government collapses.
A good horde beats a good hoard every time.
Actually, I think these articles make way more sense than the
hyper-inflation hype.

If inflation is going to become uncle Sam's fix once again, how
come it hasn't taken off already? Because he's already more than
far enough in debt.
In advance of what? Also, you have no idea what you're
talking about.
In advance of Paul entering the race. And I do have an idea what Im
talking about, I read it here.
Senator Dodd has got to go! Peter Schiff for Senate (CT) Join us

I don't trust Schiff either. He is more "money-based" than "patriotic based". There is no doubt in my mind that he would be Pro-nafta, pro-cafta and any other program that truly sells out the American jobs, to the countries that give offer up the cheapest (slave-labor), all for profits, that only benefits the few CEOs and other executives.
WAKE UP!!!! With Peter Schiff, what you see is what you get. And, if you listen to his financial advice, you get a lot. I vote for Peter today and tomorrow. I would not say the same about our current administration. Talk about "distrust", giving away Jobs, protecting the rich....We are already THERE!!! Let's do something different for a change, SAVE AMERICA, with Real, Extremely Smart, Honest People, like Peter! SCHIFF FOR SENTATE! GO PETER!!!! AND, Thanks for the Hope! We sure do need it!
