The article by Ron on energy was good, but I was disappointed that once again he failed to mention the Hyperion power module. I think it'a fascinating technology that really needs more exposure. It's suprising as well since we discussed it here extensively.

sage: Thanks for the kind remarks. And yes, I should (and wlll) report on Hyperion and also Intellectual Venture's TerraPower.

People who don't like "the rich" or "big business" or the banks may be happy that President Obama is sticking it to them. But such arbitrary powers can be turned on anybody. As John Donne said: "Send not to know for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee." There is a lot of wisdom in those words.

One other method of power generation that he didn't mention was grinding up spammers, or connecting them to the grid a la The Matrix. Pretty close to a renewable resource.

Or how about my solution? Would need just a fraction of the generation, but would eliminate transmission and distribution.
No more wires scarring the landscape, cars and planes that never have to refuel? It can be done and it is really very simple.

Ah, yes. Iron Law number 5:

Hyperion? You want Squadron Supreme to solve the energy crisis? You missed the whole point of that series.

Bailey's article(s) on alternative energy were very informative to me. Kudos!
Katherine Mangu-Ward's article on pirates was cool, too. Should have published the chart that accompanied the article, though. I thought that was pretty fascinating.
