In his
commencement speech at the University of Notre Dame on Sunday,
President Obama acknowledged that calling for greater civility in
the abortion debate will get you only so far. "No matter how much
we may want to fudge it," he said, "the fact is that at some level
the views of the two camps are irreconcilable." What Obama failed
to acknowledge, says Senior Editor Jacob Sullum, is the extent to
which he and other supporters of abortion rights have contributed
to the rancor by federalizing an issue that should be left to the
states.
