New at Reason: Radley Balko on the Video Sting Exposing Fraudulent Bite-Mark "Expert" Michael West

Two weeks ago, disgraced Mississippi bite mark specialist Dr. Michael West defended his reputation and methodology in an interview with the Associated Press. Today, Reason Senior Editor Radley Balko reveals a video that conclusively shows West to be a fraud. The 2001 video features West confidently matching the bite marks in a photograph to a dental mold sent to him from a private investigator.

The problem? The whole thing was a sting set-up by a defense attorney. The photo and dental mold could not possibly have been a match.
