
Critics say that the proposed Food Safety Modernization Act of 2009 is going to “effectively criminalize organic gardening,” conceivably outlaw “seed banking,” and serve as part of a concerted Monsanto conspiracy to drive all but corporate agri-business out of the food production racket.
While all of that is unlikely, it isn't necessarily impossible. But more importantly, writes Senior Editor Brian Doherty, the ferocious and chaotic Internet debate over the bill represents a possible new model for how we will educate ourselves about politics in a post-newspaper age.
