Reason.tv's Michael C. Moynihan and Nick Gillespie recently sat down with Tucker Carlson, senior fellow at the Cato Institute, and Veronique de Rugy, a senior research fellow at the Mercatus Center, to discuss the conservative crackup, the Bush legacy, and bailout mania in Washington.

Without reading so much as his handwritten notes, can we all agree that Tucker's book on libertarianism will be contradictory to the point of insanity?

Something along the lines of, "I'm a libertarian. Libertarians are crazy because they believe X. That's just nuts, because clearly the only thing you can logically believe is X. That's why I'm not a libertarian."

I like Tucker, I've been paying close attention to Tucker today compared to Tucker 5 years ago, and even 2 years ago and he's come a long way.

Tucker Carlson is just the sort of self-absorbed little shit libertarians should be trying to recruit in these hard times. For one thing, unlike most of the losers who make up the true-believer libertarian base, Tucker actually can make a donation.

Veronique looks like a nun, and Moynihan and Gillespie look just like Catholic priests. In that context, Carlson looks like the vulnerable little kid that they're going to harrass and sexually abuse. Maybe there's a kind of religious fanatic look that cuts across all rigid faith systems.

I'm about as impressed with Carlson as I am with Bob Barr. I think they both decided to pretend to care about freedom when they saw that the neocon ship was sinking.
