Meanwhile, as Steve Chapman writes, politicians like former
Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich either treat Senate appointments as
get-rich-quick schemes or as a way to rearrange the Washington
political landscape. In each case, the voters are reduced to potted
plants.
