Breaking news:

Left-wing feminists hate right-wing feminists and think they are wrong.

Reverse it, same deal.

Updates will come later!

|9.18.08 @ 1:01PM|

I'm confused. Cathy young article from yesterday was a 'why sara palin is good for women' kind of article, right?
Did she write two contradicting articles at the same time?

|9.18.08 @ 1:02PM|

(I didn't read either one)

|9.18.08 @ 1:06PM|

The difference between Sarah Palin and Katherine Marsh:

Palin likes to hold a gun directly in her hands and use it for hunting and self defense,
Marsh likes to have the cops hold and use guns, to order her fellow citizens around and take their money to fund her pet projects.

|9.18.08 @ 1:09PM|

I can't WTFV, but what position is Young taking now?

zoltan|9.18.08 @ 1:10PM|

FTFY.

Controversy in a nutshell: Right-wing Feminist says Sarah Palin pick does not usher in era of chattel slavery for women. Left-wing Feminists cry heresy.

That'd be an excellent point, if H&R were claiming to be a "breaking news" blog. 'Tisn't and 'taint.

I expect we'll be seeing some articles on that very topic before too long, so you might want to grab some duct tape and reattach your ass for the time being.

what are you talking about? hit and run has weighed in heavily on that subject. You are an idiot.

|9.18.08 @ 2:20PM|

Jesus, I am tired of hearing about this perfumed pig already--that was last week's overblown story.

Move on already, Cath.

Ska|9.18.08 @ 2:23PM|

Not to mention I do recall seeing more than one post concerning Fannie, Freddie, AIG - there's that little link at the bottom about past articles, so you can look at more than just today and yesterday's posts.

Some feminists have said nasty things about Palin because politics is personal and nasty and brings out high emotions in people. If people disagree in politics, sometimes it comes out as "hate" or spite or vitriol.

Why do some conservatives not just disagree with but "hate" Barack Obama? See the above. It isn't too hard to figure out. Greta was just looking for an excuse to bring up some nasty remarks on the left and elicit sympathy for her candidate.

Seems like a no-brainer to me.

pfjo|9.18.08 @ 2:55PM|

They do hate her... politics aside, the savage mauling that Sarah Palin has has to endure is one of the most sickening and repugnant things that I have witnessed in my twenty-nine years on this earth. The true ugliness of the left was never more apparent and it reminds me why I will never vote a Democrat.

John|9.18.08 @ 3:02PM|

pfjo, how is the treatment of Palin worse that the right's treatment of Hilary Clinton?

|9.18.08 @ 3:15PM|

John,

He was a teenager in the 90s. But he has an answer that rationalizes what he already believes so don't expect a substantive reply.

|9.18.08 @ 3:16PM|

Ha ha...Cathy Young talks real funny.

|9.18.08 @ 3:20PM|

This whole dais smells like cunt..........I think.

|9.18.08 @ 3:24PM|

pfjo, how is the treatment of Palin worse that the right's treatment of Hilary Clinton?

They never called Clinton a pin-up.

herodotus|9.18.08 @ 3:29PM|

"pfjo, how is the treatment of Palin worse that the right's treatment of Hilary Clinton?"

It took less time to surface.

The woman has been a national figure for, what, three weeks?

The Right's Hillary hate didn't surface until after after the first Clinton Health care plan fiasco.

And Sarah Palin is WAY hotter than Hillary.

And Cathy Young has a cute voice.

Peter K.|9.18.08 @ 3:38PM|

hahahahaha!

Peter K.
what are you talking about? hit and run has weighed in heavily on that subject. You are an idiot.

Shut up douche.

Heavily? I think this past week or so (Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers, AIG, Merrill Lynch, and more on the way) is evidence 90% of what Amity Shlaes, Tyler Cowen, and Megan McCardle have to say on economic matters is wrong.

None of what they've written in recent years warned of this looming disaster, b/c what would have been needed to prevent it would have been better regulators and/or regulations, which they are ideologically against. Basically they're anti-government propagandists and they "enabled" - by their ideas and memes - many of the fraudsters who ripped off the average taxpayer.

|9.18.08 @ 3:40PM|

So women hate any other woman who does not fit into their narrow view and or is more attractive than they are. This comes as a shock to anyone? The whole underpinning of the left leaning feminist movement is abortion and giving the unattractive equal access. Clearly they see Palin as a threat to reproductive rights compounded by the fact she has thus far succeeded in a way contrasting how they think a woman should.

|9.18.08 @ 3:45PM|

Peter K.

Wrong thread, dude. Could you please stick to the topic of the ongoing catfight? (And the disaster is the government's making, not the free-market's.)

DannyK|9.18.08 @ 3:48PM|

To Cathy Young: If you hurry, you can get a book contract out of this -- do it now while people still want to hear about Sarah Palin.

pfjo|9.18.08 @ 3:49PM|

John,
the attacks on Palin are more immediate and more dishonest. The right, in maligning Hillary Clinton, attacked her ideas and the appropriateness of them coming from a first lady and then later the attacks degraded into personal animosity - they just didn't like her. Imagine if they had savaged her before Bill was elected and before she interjected herself into politics?

What is happening here is all out character assassination with such speed, ferocity, and vulgarity (they've called her a porn star politician? Lamented her parenting skills? Misrepresented her record in a uniquely dishonest way) not because she overreached beyond what was thought appropriate - rather she is being personally savaged for purely strategic reason. The dailykos is reveling in it. They destroyed her before she could define herself politically simply because she was an institutional threat not even because she was a legitimate political threat.

Politics is an ugly business but what I'm witnessing here is something all-together different.

|9.18.08 @ 3:51PM|

Palin likes to hold a gun directly in her hands and use it for hunting and self defense and take their money to fund her pet projects,

I seriously doubt that Sarah Palin has engaged in armed robbery to fund hockey rinks.

|9.18.08 @ 4:03PM|

Politics is an ugly business but what I'm witnessing here is something all-together different.

Are you kidding me? When McCain was running against Bush in 2000, people in the South were getting calls asking if they knew McCain had fathered an illegitimate child who was black. Business as usual, just compressed into a fortnight.

|9.18.08 @ 4:06PM|

pfjo: Boo-fucking-hoo.

|9.18.08 @ 4:14PM|

And by the way, were CHELSEA Clinton jokes made by those on the right(including McCain)because of Chelsea's IDEAS?

Brandybuck|9.18.08 @ 4:17PM|

how is the treatment of Palin worse that the right's treatment of Hilary Clinton?

Hillary has been in the public light since 1992, as either First Lady or Senator or Presidential candidate. Three weeks of Sarah hate is seriously competing with sixteen years of Hillary hate. It's so lopsided it ain't funny.

|9.18.08 @ 4:19PM|

Atabrat,
your example shows that you aren't paying attention to what I am saying.

Character assassination from one candidate to the other is as old as politics and Rove was a specialist in it but that isn't what we are seeing with Palin. We are seeing a collective attack.

We are witnessing a metaphorical gang-beating not just a dirty one on one street fight. She is being savaged from all angles for a myriad of reasons, far too many to fight off and it is pretty sickening to witness.

|9.18.08 @ 4:22PM|

GetaGrip,
yours is the better point and more closely in tune with mine. There is a savagery to the attacks on Chelsea that mirrors those on Bristol just as the attacks on Hillary were comparable (but I don't think quite as nasty) as those on Gov. Palin.

Perhaps it is an issue with sexism... something I never argue... I don't know.

I should also point out that I'm no Palin fan. I'm a cosmopolitan atheist libertarian who is no fan of her folksy charm. I personally think she is likely to be more like W. Bush than a real reformer.

pfjo|9.18.08 @ 4:33PM|

Oh,
and Henry. I don't think my age has anything to do with my ability to make a rational argument.

I was very sensitive too and horrified by the nastiness of the attacks on Chelsea when she was young just as I was bothered by the attacks on Hillary. I'm not ignorant to them nor am I somehow partial to Gov. Palin - I don't like either of them.

What concerns me is that the attacks on Hillary took a couple of years to build and didn't really peak until she pushed herself into national politics. Palin is a VP choice and so it is natural that the attacks will come faster but it's the nature and substance of the attacks that I find more vicious not just the lyrical content.

|9.18.08 @ 4:39PM|

pfjo-

Point taken. I think many of the attacks are pretty beyond the pale but not unheard of. But as far as a collective effort, the Democrats have proven for years that they are incapable of collectively getting their shit together. Rather, what I think is going on is that a bunch of bloggers thought Obama was a shoe-in, but now that the race is so close they are scrambling to throw everything and anything they can at her because the clock is ticking, and they hope something sticks. It may seem like an orchestrated effort because there is so much slinging in such a short period of time, and her story is prime celebrity tabloid fodder so it has reached fever-pitch everywhere. If you took all the nutty shit they said about Hillary over the years and squeezed it into a month, I don't know that it would seem all that different.

|9.18.08 @ 5:50PM|

"If you took all the nutty shit they said about Hillary over the years and squeezed it into a month, I don't know that it would seem all that different."

Atabrat,
I think you are right. The speed factor makes a huge difference in the severity of the attack.

Also, I don't think that this is organized at all... more like a lion and a bunch of jackals, vultures, and dogs savaging someone. I'm not suggesting that Palin is weak, rather that this is just on a special level of nastiness.

SPECIAL LEVEL OF NASTYNESS|9.18.08 @ 9:31PM|

What if one should suggest she's not qualified for the job?

|9.19.08 @ 2:23AM|

how is the treatment of Palin worse that the right's treatment of Hilary Clinton?

Clinton deserved it.

Jesus F\'ing Christ|9.19.08 @ 10:32AM|

Are we still talking about dingbat Palin?

Why?

Does anyone on here seriously give a rat's ass about this? So the Rightwing of the Boot-On-Your-Neck Party has decided for strategic reasons to put an inarticulate piece-of-ass on the ticket. Big f'ing deal. Meanwhile the Leftwing of the Boot-On-Your-Neck Party talks *still* about raising taxes and goshdarnit how patriotic that might be.

What we should be discussing is when do we reach for the ammo box and start taking out some these numbskulls.... or does anyone here think they can dodge their share of the trillion dollar Wall Street Bailout™? That is $30,000 for every man woman and child in the United States. I don't know about you... but I would like to buy a real house someday... but MyFriendlyGovernment® has already spent my downpayment.

|9.19.08 @ 11:50AM|

jcr,

I think you got your decimal in the wrong place, I get about $3,000 per person. Still a bunch, but not quite so bad.

jcr,

Sorry, I meant to address Jesus F'ing Christ

Does it really matter - When was the last president elected who was not a member of the Council on Foreign Rlations?

McCain, Obama, Palin & Biden are members of the CFR!!!!!

Ron Paul and Dennis the Menace are not

Of course, in a republic, we get the government we deserve!!!!

So don't worry, be happy about the government you have and all the new debt that we have all inherited by the bailout of Fannie / Freddie, AIG and all the other banks that will fail before Xmas!!!!!

Be prepared for higher taxes regardless of who the president is!!!!

jonny|9.22.08 @ 2:12AM|

she's a bunt! I ban't wait till the Palin kids are more front and benter. They will show america what it means to party. No man bandidate would get any where with this train wreck family and we are suppose to give her a break bause she's a mom. Fuck you U.S.A for buying into this horse shit. Palin is Subprime. We will get a V.P. with no money down. Sara Palin will use the Bomb on her ex brother in law. But hey God's will.
