A local ordinance barring concealed-carry in city parks in Clyde, Ohio, is overturned by the state Supreme Court, the result of suit filed by Ohioans for Concealed Carry. The ordinance was found to conflict with Ohio state law that allows for liberal concealed carry unless already existing federal or state law prohibits it.

Surely the firearm murders in those unrestricted and shall issue states is significantly higher than the may issue and right denied states. People should be gunning each othewr down over parking space disputes at the mall. Why don't gun control advocates trot those figures out more often?

I personally am a fan of open carry, as I believe it is reasonable in a civil society for a guy/gal to be able to know if the guy/gal they're dealing with is armed...but any strike against silly gov't gun regulations is a good thing in the current environment.

LMNOP, several states have open carry. Most of them are Western states.

By the way, what kind of bullshit do you have to go through in RI to get one? CT is relatively simple.

Haven't you been reading Mayor Bloomberg's press releases? The reason there's such a high rate of gun crimes in such gun-controllig People's Republics as New York (and California, and Illinois) is that the criminals are buying guns in Georgia and other freewheeling states. Just close that loophole, and criminals will be forced to hire knife-wielding ninja assassins for their drive-by shootings and bank robberies.

Ohio has open-carry. There's heapum controversy over it because most cops don't know it, so you have to prepare to be hassled about it. (More accurately speaking, open-carry is not illegal or spoken to in the Ohio Revised Code).

Clyde is like, ten minutes from my hometown. Biggest Whirlpool factory in the world and one of those places you either escape or end up having four kids and house in right after high school.

Open Carry in KY led to police harrassment (at least in Louisville, Lexington and Covington - in the rest of the state they cops didnt notice anything unusual).

I favor both open and concealed carry. To paraphrase Barney Frank, we shouldnt be banning recreational activities that do no harm, and both open and concealed carry do no harm to others.

That's odd. Previously, the SC refused to hear an appeal of a ruling by the Appeals Court upholding a Toledo park ordinance.

I wonder what made them change their mind?

That's generally what I mean when I say cops are being assholes. There really aren't that many ways in which a cop can't be an asshole that don't also involve some abuse of personal seizure (such as a traffic stop), discrimination, or assault. This is true by virtue of the nature of their job and the derivation of their authority.

FWIW, that's an awesome Constitution snippet y'all have got there in KY.

Here in NC open carry is not explicitly illegal, but there is an ambiguous statute that prohibits "going armed to the terror of the people". In other words, if somebody sees your hogleg and calls the police, you may be in for some problems.

J sub D you need to read a book by Dr. John Lott, called "More Guns, Less Crime." It is a factual statistic, not conjecture.

There are over 2 million crimes averted every year by the mere brandishment of a firearm. Some of those weapons are bought and carried illegally, but the reason for them is self-preservation. Women that have been assaulted or raped may purchase a small gun that fits in a handbag. When they feel threatend again, they display the gun. They don't have to shoot. The attacker knows that even if they are just wounded, they can't go to a hospital. Laws require all gunshot wounds to be reported to the police. What would be the attackers defense? "Well, I tried to rape a women but she shot me with an illegally carried firearm." That might go over well with liberals that would paint him as a victim, but not with intelligent people.
