Can there be any reason for another Alan Keyes thread? Yes, I think so. While slapdash organization, delusional arrogance, and despicable policy stances decided the Constitution Party's nomination over the weekend, a contributing factor in the Keyes defeat was... Ron Paul.

It went like this. On Friday, Constitution Party founder Howard Phillips gave a blistering anti-Keyes speech, calling the recent convert a "neocon" who was worse than the GOP on some issues. The key argument for pastor Chuck Baldwin, however, was that Baldwin could attract Ron Paul supporters who might otherwise vote Libertarian.

Chuck Baldwin was out there on the front lines for Ron Paul... Bob Barr spoke with Ron Paul on three occasions, begging him for his support as he seeks the Libertarian Party nomination, but Ron Paul will not do that because in his heart Ron Paul knows that Chuck Baldwin is right, and that if the Paul people are to support anyone it's Chuck Baldwin. This is something we can look to. Ron Paul has attracted scores of thousands of supporters, he's got an estimated $35 million in the bank [Ed.--actually, it's down to $4 million], and these are resources we can look to if we nominate a candidate who has been a friend of Ron Paul, not an enemy of Ron Paul.

Phillips is on to something. Baldwin and Barr represent two very different sides of the Ron Paul coalition. Baldwin represents the Christian reconstructionist side, which I (happily) don't think made up a majority of the rEVOLution. Here's what Baldwin wrote after 9/11, for example.

For nearly a half-century, we have forsaken the moral principles of Heaven. We have legally murdered too many unborn babies. We have too readily accepted aberrant, sexual behavior. We kicked Heaven out of our schools, out of our homes, and out of our hearts. As a result, God is giving us a little taste of Hell.

That's who Phillips wants to reconstruct the Paul coalition. Well, good luck with that. If David Gahan is right, I guess we can all have our own personal Ron Pauls. But at least Keyes got his comeuppance for stepping on Paul's answers at the Des Moines Register debate. (Tom Tancredo's open-handed slap at Keyes that day was probably the only three second period in which I became a Tancredo supporter.)

If Paul ever a Christian reconstructionist following, I've never met any of 'em. Most of those people hated him like poison....

ok, why should Barr OR the LP give a shit about Paul's support? Paul isn't a member. Paul isn't there to prop the LP up. and the libertarians, particularly "beltway libertarians" continually thrashed Paul.

RP has no responsibility for the LP, their candidate (probably Barr), or using hiw own resources to prop the LP. from every single thing i've seen this POTUS cycle, the LP and its spheres of opinion makers are some of the most small, trite, most counter-productive wastrels in politics. both the LP and the (l)ibertarians have shown me that the very name "libertarian" needs to mercifully die off. perhaps start anew with another name, and maybe some of the taint of self-loathing might escape it.

Paul should stay far,FAR away from any LP bleating.

Umm... it should be known that Barr is becoming a long shot to win the LP nomination. Its probably going to Wayne Allen Root. I could also see Mary Ruwart as a possibility with Christine Smith having about the same chance as Barr to be nominated.

Bob Barr already seems to have an unlikely ally in dimwit Atlanta Journal-Constitution opinion page editor Cynthia Tucker, who was plugging his LP bid on Chris Matthews' show last night because she thinks Barr can siphon some votes away from McCain in the South.

Root would be the LP's destruction. He's a neoconservative who gave $1000 to Joe Lieberman just two years ago because Lieberman is the one Senator who is as pro-Israel as Root. Root is a social conservative who only argues he wants the states enforcing morality not the feds. That isn't libetarian -- its conservative.

I don't know if Baldwin is a Reconstructionist, but the linked article doesn't show him to be such. It discusses American offending God, and it also discusses the need for a declaration of war after 9/11 (Dr. Paul's point), the need to uphold freedom even in wartime, opposition to internationalism (another of Dr. Paul's points), anti-open borders rhetoric (Dr. Paul again), and a critique of America's cosy relations with China.

Aesthetically, the rhetoric isn't what I like, but that's probably because he's a radio talk-show host who writes like he talks. He probably wouldn't like *my* writing style, either.

There's nothing Reconstructionist in the article, except to those who equate school prayer with a full-on Old Testament-style theocracy.

Let them speak. Let their own words inspire a resistance and counter-attack to the Jihad. Let them bury their own graves with their hate.

I do not propose we reason with them. Those proposals have been made, and if they are successful, they are successful because of better men than myself.

I do not propose we come to terms with them. For to come to terms between civilization and barbarity is to leave yourself in the medieval world where one "comes to terms" with the conflicting arguments for the roundness and flatness of the planet.

I do not propose we convert them. For we can never be sure of their sincerity. Let those who wish to leave Islam do so on their own and by the efforts of better men than myself. I am not usually persuasive. Conversions are not my strong point. But now I must try, with all honesty, attempt to convert YOU. To convert you away from the notion of coexistence with Muslims. From the notion that they're just like us, only "misguided". That they just need some time to modernize. No, no no. Not from where I'm sitting.

Here's what I do propose:

The goal of eliminating Islam from the planet, and to mete out harsh punishment to those who would resist that, be they Muslim or otherwise. I hope such an elimination be done peacefully. Event after event after event, after yet another mosque exposed to be radical, after another school of Islam justifying beheadings and violence, after more native French citizens raped by the Muslim thugs for no other reason than being "Infidels"… After all that, I hope in vain.

Therefore I propose an answer to the likes of Al-Queda, Hamas, and Hezbolla. I propose "converts" to Islam who will not just spy on the mosque activities, but those who will take the law into their own hands and punish the jihad encouragers physically. Outside and independently of the law, of the police. They will not help. Don't count on them.

I propose the demolition of mosques. The psychological terrorism of Muslims in western countries. People describe them as immigrants, or converts, or potential threats. Here's how I would decribe them: HOSTAGES. You, western Muslims, are surrounded by seas of infidels in many places of the world. I call upon those infidels to harshly use them as bargaining chips to win rights for Arab Christians and atheists and others under Islam's cruel thumb. For Israel. And should the Mohameddan tribes fail to deliver, I call upon those infidels to make an example of what happens when you anger the Free World past a point of no return. When you declare a war of extermination on those who received you and helped you and gave you freedoms and opportunities unheard of in your "righteous" Islamic societies. When you declare that our mothers and sisters are indecent whores for exposing their hair. When you condemn terrorism in English and then applaud and promote it in Arabic.

I propose eliminating Muslims, one way or another, from Western countries. And afterwards, I propose taking the battle to Islamic countries. Just as they grow their jihads underground here, So you may fight your crusade under their noses there. Demolish mosques. Intimidate. Do what is necessary.

Fight battles you can win. Gather intelligence. Gather strength. Don't go the route of the suicidal fanatic dying for his cause. As a famous military commander put it:

"DO NOT THINK BATTLES ARE WON BY DYING VALIANTLY FOR YOUR CAUSE, BUT BY MAKING THE OTHER BASTARD DIE FOR HIS."

Make it happen. Exterminate this vile religion from the world. Without the help of the State. Don't bother lobbying, going on the news, writing op-eds, and so on. Other people do so, and this article is not geared towards those. It is geared towards a more action-minded audience. Geared towards people who will do what is necessary to protect what is precious. Offend, insult, and demolish nothing but Islam. Be kind to Sikhs, even though they wear turbans and have beards. Accept and respect Hindus, atheists, agnostics, Jews, Christians, Jains, Buddhists, socialists, libertarians, conversatives, liberals, and so on. All but Muslim are welcome. All but Muslim are fully human.

Unless of course, you want your children and grandchildren to know nothing but the misery of Islam. Of regression. Of lies. Of intellectual and moral bankruptcy. Of a life decrepit and short and painful. For that is what Islam will bring. Don't be fooled by their kindness. It is a mirage. Make them know that they are not welcome anywhere on the planet as long as they adhere to Islam.

If you feel that hurting Muslim feelings is too much, then don't bother. Go ahead, defend Islam. Defend those who would kill you for failing to convert to their Religion of Peace.

I've been following Pastor Chuck Baldwin for quite a while. Yeah, I know, his faith is a turnoff for many folks here, but I think he's the best candidate the Conservative Party has offered to date. I think he'll do a fine job of communicating the conservative-libertarian message.

Most of the Ron Paul supporters in my area are Constitution Party people or are previously unaffiliated college students. Very few of the "true" libertarians around here supported him -- felt he "wasn't really a libertarian."

So now, because I'm on the RP state mailing list, I get daily updates on why gays are bad and why I should be helping to hijack the Republican Party.

Baldwin is not a Christian Reconstructionist. Reconstructionism means something very specific theologically and Baldwin is not one. Baldwin is a Baptist. Reconstructionists are almost by definition Reformed. Baldwin is pre-mil. Reconstructionists are post-mil. Baldwin is both theologically and politically conservative, but that does not make him a Reconstructionist anymore than every leftist is a Commie or every rightist a Fascist. We need to be specific in our use of language.
