Anti-Drug Propaganda Brings Us Together

Going through pictures of Burma last night, I found this picture I'd taken inside Rangoon's palatial Drug Elimination Museum. I guess the drooling fellow is supposed to be high. Turns out, the museum has a web site that includes photographs of its many life sized anti-drug dioramas.

The thugs in Myanmar don't even have to pay lip servive to civil liberties. Yet I'll bet dollars to donuts that they don't eliminate illegal drug use there either.

It is probably one thing they are doing right. The US could learn more about how to fight a real drug war from countries like Myanmar. We should execute anyone caught with even the smallest amount of any illegal substance.

Actually, a government that is willing to publicly whip and/or execute people caught with even a small amount of illicit drugs is a way to eliminate drug use. I'm pretty sure there are no potheads in Singapore. There are basically two options with drugs--legalize them or execute the users. Anything in between causes more problems than it solves. I, of course, support the former option.

She's not kidding. "The Museum was constructed at a total cost of over 820 million Kyats..." At 6 Kyats to the dollar, this is about $34 million. In a desparately poor country.

Here's hoping for a quick death to the junta.

6 kyat per dollar is the official rate, so meaningless. The street rate when I was there was something like 1000 kyat per dollar. No idea what it is these days.
