Chris Dodd isn't going to win the presidency or anything, but his campaign web team are enjoying their work. Like they did with Sunday's Democratic debate, Dodd's team clocked the time each GOP candidate got on Tuesday. But they put a joke in the code:

This is a brilliant idea; I am sure there are scores of people across the country who were going to vote for Giuliani, but when they saw how much time Blitzer gave Rudy, decided to vote for Dodd.

Mitch, I'm sure Dodd wasn't going for the Rudy McRomney crowd, but if he's got a cool tool for political junkies on his site, then he's going to get more political junkie traffic on his site. More political junkie traffic means more people who might submit tidbits from his site to blogs. More blog coverage, maybe more press coverage. All of it leads to more attention for Chris Dodd, and, as a politician, he likes attention.

I got into 'trouble' on occasion for indirectly poking fun at other programmers in my code comments. At one point, someone working for another company which did code reviews on our code said to me when we first met over the phone "Oh, you're the one with the sense of humor."

Actually, putting stupid things on your website that get the attention of the internets is a pretty smart move. I knew nothing about Chris Dodd before today. Now I know that he's just another unremarkable New England Democrat, but he's apparently got a web designer on staff that enjoys tired worn out jokes.
