I'll be talking up my new book at the San Diego Libertarian Party convention this Saturday, Feb. 10. The book, Radicals for Capitalism: A Freewheeling History of the Modern American Libertarian Movement, is officially out next week.
My talk will focus on the LP's role as one of the first modern American libertarian movement institutions to switch from a purely educational (or, in some cases, escapist) role to one of trying to affect political change, with a survey of all that's happened along the way.
Here
are all the details on the convention, held at the Marina
Village Conference Center in San Diego.
The walk-up ticket charge is $80, though that includes lunch and
dinner. My talk is from 1:15 to 1:45, and itself worth every
penny.

Damn, I was excited that there is finally an event in a town I live in, but holy crap, $80? Ouch.

Seriously! I was all "WOOO SAN DIEGO!" and then I saw the whole $80 thing and got really sad.

I did not think I would find a couple of freeloaders on H&R. :)

I'm not looking to freeload, so much as to be able to pay to see what I want (guest speakers) without paying for what I don't want (food). I'd be happy to pay $5-10, with no food or beverage.

"I did not think I would find a couple of freeloaders on H&R."
There ain't nothing anti-Capitalist about demanding lower prices for goods and services of a particular value, friend.

As someone who got your book signed in person at the UW book store I was curious of your impressions of the the documentary "Burning Man, Beyond Black Rock". For me the 'best' bit was the hardest to watch considering the fact that he did the temple of light for my friends after the zombie massacre. I want to know your thoughts and feelings on this particular bit of journalism.

LOL. No really, I did.
Guy Montag, so the old lady is in DC this week and I take the kids down the hill to Barnes & Nobel for a little R&R. I'm standing there looking at the classics in paperback and there it is: Fahrenheit 451
Then the light comes on and I slap myself in the head and say:
DOH!

Dead & John, San Diego is a great town. If I ever live in the city it just might be that one.
One of my favorite wine shops is in the Gaslamp district. Called The Wine Bank.

I wonder if Brian will mention the radical for capitalism: Ayn Rand? Or will his libertarian bias get the better of him?
Mike Laursen|2.9.07 @ 4:01PM|#
Sigh. OK, I'll bite. Why would his libertarian bias make him avoid all mentions of Ayn Rand?

I live in San Diego..and I have 7 bucks in my checking account. :(
