"We now hear that to criticize a judicial nominee's faith-based
opposition to abortion is "religious bigotry,..."
Not quite. It is more when a judicial nominee's affirmation of his
religion's doctrine that abortion is immoral is argued to be a
disqualification for office. It amounts to a religious test for
officeholders that is unconstitutional itself.
@MJ:
I'll buy that when one potential elected or appointed politician
finally stands up and says "I'm an atheist" and still
manages to get the job. If there's a religious litmus test, it's
clearly favors those who, at least espouse, belief.
My impression is that nothing brings more people to Jesus than
running an election campaign.
Cathy's departure will reduce the already low level of ideological diversity on the Boston Globe Op Ed page. When the Globe was forced to lay off a columnist, they discarded 1 of their 2 non-liberals.
