What ever happened to Bagge's immigration cartoon? I think the link broke in the site reshuffling a few months back.

They'll be breaking down that America-hater Bagge's door, one of these days. Then ALL his links will be broken. I hope his dog has a bulletproof vest.

The issue of flouride is not so simple. As a person who leans towards libertarian thinking, I have reservation about using a public water system as a delivery system for medication. Second, flouride is most effective when applied topically. Ingesting it can pose health risks. Americans believe many things that qualify them for tinfoil hats. A concern about government adding a chemical to the water supply is not one them.

...That is why I have insisted that Congress pass strong anti-terrorism legislation immediately -- to provide for more than 1,000 new law enforcement personnel solely to fight terrorism; to create a domestic anti-terrorism center...

...I would like to say something to [those of you] who believe the greatest threat to America comes not from terrorists from ... beyond our borders, but from our own government.

I believe you have every right, indeed you have the responsibility, to question our government when you disagree with its policies. And I will do everything in my power to protect your right to do so.

But I also know there have been lawbreakers among those who espouse your philosophy....

...The people who came to the United States to bomb the World Trade Center were wrong....

...If you treat law enforcement officers who put their lives on the line for your safety every day like some kind of enemy army to be suspected...you are wrong....

...How dare you suggest that we in the freest nation on Earth live in tyranny....

...[T]here is nothing patriotic about hating your country, or pretending that you can love your country but despise your government.....

There's certainly a little bit of irony here…a cartoon that at once makes fun of people for being concerned about silly things while at the same time expressing concern that the government someday is going to come and git us all for no reason.

It is sad watching Lawrence Lessig and Peter Bagge sell out. they were two guys I really looked up to.

In this cartoon he delves into crazee beliefs relating to product liability of "the recent past."

First, he identifies the breast implant thing. First of all, they were banned 14 or 15 years ago. That is recent? Dow even settled its liability suits a fairly long time ago, IIRC. What is more, even though the research has since shown that the implants are safe, it doesn't mean that it was crazee to look for a problem or to think that Dow was reckless in its marketing. In my opinion, the whole thing wouldn't have happened if Dow had its reps be sure to tell the patients that the things leaked. The whole hoo ha was more about the fact that patients weren't warned about leakage in a timely manner. It is sort of understandable that when they found out that a gr8 proportion of the things leaked that there would be hell to pay. The fears may have been ultimately unfounded, but they were not crazee.

Second, the recent past of silicone breast implants is that the FDA lifted the ban. 2006: recent past; 1993: not recent past. Got it, Bagge?

Third, the Alar scare was 1989. When you did your job interview with Cato and/or ReasonOnline, and they asked for recent samples of your work, did you show them the issue of Neat Stuff where Buddy is floating over the medical and nuclear waste? Didn't think so.
