It took me a minute to get the joke. During a debate with Carter, Ford made a famous gaffe in which he said that Eastern Europe was not dominated by the Soviet Union, and the U.S. would never allow it to be. That's when everyone started asking how often Ford had played football without a helmet.

This type of article is why the libertarians will never be a political force in American politics. A good man Gerald Ford has died---he took over the Presidency (which he never sought, nor would have--he was contemplating retirement when asked to be VP) at a time of great turmoil--he made difficult decisions based on what he felt was best for the country. We didn't need another 3 or 4 years of Watergate on the front pages (which with a trial and appeals would have happened)--Nixon was disgraced and run out of office--a pretty steep price (and deserved--but more humilation? how would that have served the country?). He finished the extradition from VietNam, he pardoned the draft dodgers, --only someone who put the countries welfare ahead of his political ambitions who do so. And so how does the libertarian magazine remember him??--they mock him for an obvious gaff he made in a debate. Man do you guys show class.

You didn't actually read the article, did you, Terry?
In fact, you don't really have any idea what the article is about, do you?

A good rule of thumb: If a blog comment includes any variant of the phrase "This is why the libertarians will never be a political force," it almost invariably will be dumb.

I don't know about you, but, most of the time I'm don't think I care that "libertarians will never be a political force." I'm not sure I'm that interested in force.
But I am interested in reading comprehension. :)

I'm glad that Estonia is doing so well. One thing which Mr. Tupy might have mentioned (and didn't) is that Estonia has a land-only property tax, a tax which collects revenue without discouraging production, construction, and trade. The rest of the world ought to imitate that, and Estonia ought to do even better by raising the land tax, and further cutting its income and other taxes.

From the way these Brown/Ford headlines were going I was expecting something like "Republican plot trips-up mourning of black leader" to be posted by now. Glad the editorial staff stopped before going that far.
